ABOUT AVRA
Where Childhood is Honoured, Not Hurried
At AVRA International Montessori, we believe childhood is a radiant beginning — not a race to be finished.
Inspired by the meaning of Avra — breeze, aura, radiance — we have created a calm, thoughtfully prepared environment where children grow naturally and confidently.
Our Story
AVRA began with a mother’s love and a parent’s insight.
Founder & Managing Director Sweethaa Rajkumar was inspired by her own sons’ Montessori and International Baccalaureate (IB) education journeys. Witnessing how early independence in Montessori seamlessly evolved into inquiry-driven thinking within the IB framework shaped a powerful realization:
The strongest foundation is built in the earliest years. Her journey into early childhood education began at Sammamish Montessori School in Redmond, WA (near Seattle) where she experienced firsthand the quiet magic of focused children working independently in a carefully prepared environment. This experience led her to pursue formal Early Childhood Education studies and specialized Montessori training.
Together with Chief Learning Officer Anuradhaa Athimuthu, AVRA was created as a space that blends authentic Montessori principles with inspiration from IB philosophy and Reggio Emilia thinking — educating the whole child: hands, heart, and head.
Our Philosophy
We believe children are naturally curious, capable, and intrinsically motivated to learn.
Rooted in Montessori principles, AVRA nurtures:

1) Independence
with responsibility

2) Freedom
within structure

3) Concentration through purposeful work

4) Reflection
through inquiry

5) Confidence
through competence
Our classrooms are carefully prepared environments where materials invite exploration, questions are encouraged, and learning unfolds through hands-on discovery.
Education at AVRA is not about information alone. It is about formation — of character, discipline, curiosity, and resilience.
We observe — we do not rush.
We guide — we do not instruct.
We nurture — we do not pressure.
Our Mission
Our mission is to create a joyful learning experience where every child is seen, respected, and empowered.
We strive to:
- Cultivate independence and intrinsic motivation
- Foster critical thinking and inquiry
- Build strong academic foundations through hands-on exploration
- Develop emotional intelligence and empathy
- Partner meaningfully with families
Each child is guided to grow at their own pace, discovering their strengths and building inner confidence that extends far beyond the classroom.
Our Vision
We envision a generation of confident, compassionate, and globally aware individuals — children who think independently, act ethically, and contribute meaningfully to society.
In a rapidly evolving world, we prepare children not by accelerating childhood, but by strengthening foundations.
Through Montessori independence and IB-inspired inquiry, AVRA learners develop:
- Clarity of thought
- Courage to explore
- Integrity in action
- Respect for diversity
- Responsibility toward community
Our vision is not merely academic success.
It is the cultivation of thoughtful leaders, empathetic citizens, and lifelong learners.
A Community Rooted in Presence
At AVRA, we believe in presence.
We walk children through gardens, stories, textures, conversation, and real-world discovery. In a fast-paced digital world, we offer something technology cannot replace — human connection, purposeful work, and wonder.
In partnership with families, we are building more than a school.
We are building a foundation for life.
